2008 Walk For Life Team

Community Involvement

Credit Unions exist to provide more than financial services, we also look beyond our walls to the larger community. This philosophy leads us to support worthwhile charitable and social causes.

If you would like more information, or to support one of these worthy causes, please contact Erin Timmons by email or call (803) 376-2804. Following are some of our most recent efforts:

  • Harvest Hope Food Bank – Palmetto Citizens will be collecting donations for Harvest Hope Food Bank November 16 - December 1. In 2008 staff and members were able to donate over 14,000 pounds of food to help provide a happier holiday for many Midlands families.
  • First Ladies Walk for Life…Steps Against Breast Cancer - Each year we organize a team for the walk and raise money for this important cause. In 2009, Palmetto Citizens formed the largest team for the Walk with 385 members and helped to raise over $12,000. Check back in July to register for our 2010 Walk for Life Team.
  • Free Document Shredding - We continue to help keep information out of the hands of identity thieves but hosting a series of no cost shredding days. In 2009, we have already assisted consumers in shedding over 25 tons of personal information. Click here to see more information on our upcoming dates and locations.
  • National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) - Palmetto Citizens provides a free financial education program, including student workbooks and teacher curriculum, to high school teachers and community group leaders. The NEFE program covers topics, such as: establishing and prioritizing financial goals, understanding the wise use of credit, developing a budget and how to save. To date, we have helped provide the program to over 14,000 students.
  • Financial Presentations - Palmetto Citizens is always happy to assist local schools and youth groups by providing speakers on a variety of financial topics including: checking accounts, budgeting, credit, investments and credit union careers. Palmetto Citizens can also assist teachers by providing supplemental materials like student checkbooks for use in the classroom. To request a speaker for your classroom or group, please complete our Online Request Form.
  • Children’s Miracle Network – Each February we raise money for our local CMN affiliate, Palmetto Health Children's Hospital. This year, we were able to present a check for $13,285 through the variety of generous donations from our members and staff. These donations help care for the 82,000 children treated at the hospital each year.
  • Teacher Recognition Breakfast – Each year Palmetto Citizens is the presenting sponsor of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce Teacher Recognition Breakfast. The event highlights the efforts of educators in our area and recognizes the individual Teachers of the Year. Congratulations to this year’s winners.

Palmetto Citizens is also an active participant with the United Way, Junior Achievement and many other community events.
