Don't fall for this scam!
We’re aware of fraudulent text messages claiming to be from Palmetto Citizens. No information has been compromised and these scams are being sent to random people within our area hoping to reach some who are members.
The texts asks to confirm a purchase you did not make. Once you reply with "no", you may receive a call from a person pretending to be from our Fraud Department. Remember, even when confirming a potentially fraudulent transaction, we will never ask you to provide us with your PIN number or Social Security Number..
Scammers are getting better at inventing ways to trick you, like using fraudulent texts. Protect yourself and always lookout for these red flags:
- Unusual Sender: Be wary of messages from unknown or unexpected senders, especially those claiming to be from Palmetto Citizens.
- Urgency & Threats: Scam messages often have a sense of urgency, claiming your account is compromised or immediate action is required.
- Suspicious Links: Scammers will create links that look legitimate but aren’t. Some are very sophisticated, so it’s best to avoid clicking any link texted to you from an unknown or unexpected sender.
